Navy gives a huge surprise to ailing World War II veteran.

Ernie Thompson is a World War II veteran. On November 3, Ernie Thompson passed away at the age of 99.

During World War II, Thompson served on both the USS Tennessee and USS Missouri, two of the ships that were named after U.S. states.


His grandson Jonathan Williams wrote on Facebook that Thompson would make regular visits to the ships.

But in recent years, due to health problems, he couldn’t visit them anymore.

And so, in August, members of the US Navy Fleet Anti-Submarine Warfare Center decided to give him a surprise visit.
